Create Breathtaking Landscapes With Oil Painting Photo Effects
Hanging art in your home can be daunting and often the last task for residents. Walls are traditionally empty or filled with the occasional selfie. This might be because someone doesn’t know what other kinds of art to hang, but it is also because hanging other forms of art like drawings and paintings can get quite expensive.
What if you can turn your photography into realistic digital paintings? With BeFunky’s Oil Painting effects, you can turn any of your landscape photography into a digital landscape oil painting in minutes. You can use any of BeFunky’s Artsy effects to transform your photos into art, but we are going to focus on creating oil painting landscapes today.
If you want to start a project like this from scratch and would like to take your own landscape photos, check out the article "Your Guide to Stunning Landscape Photography." If there is a photo that you have in mind, but need it to be another size for a specific wall you’d like to hang it on, you can expand the photo and adjust the size of the landscape photo by using Expand AI – this is one of my favorite tools.
How to Turn a Picture Into a Realistic Landscape Oil Painting
Ready to get started? Head to the Oil Painting category and follow along!
Step 1: Upload a Photo
Select the image you want to edit by dragging and dropping the image directly onto the canvas, or select the Open tab to choose another method. After you choose your landscape image, decide on which filter you want to apply. We are going to use Impasto GFX.
Our Oil Painting GFX effects replicate oil painting’s rich textures, bold colors, and brushstrokes of these traditional art pieces. There are two GFX effects to choose from: Impasto and Realist. These art filters work best on, landscape photography, and architecture shots.
Step 2: Select and Customize Your Oil Painting GFX Effect
After selecting the Impasto GFX effect, you will see your photo instantly transform into an Impasto oil painting. Select Settings to adjust the Amount, Smoothness, and Variation of the effect.
I play around with each of these settings until I get the desired effect. Fidelity refers to how closely you want the effect to mimic your original painting. The lower this is, the more textured the paint strokes and the more art-like the effect will look. Variation allows you to toggle through several different versions of your image. Our AI will produce multiple versions of the same effect for you to choose from.
Each option will feature differences in brushstroke and texture. I like my oil paintings to look more textured, so I usually leave the Fidelity at a low number and choose the variation I like best.
When you like the settings, click Apply.
Step 3: Save Your Oil Painting Landscape Art
Save your photo by using the Save dropdown menu at the top of the screen. Select your desired location and file type.

Digital Oil Painting Landscape Inspiration
If you want to make your landscape photos into art, but aren’t sure where to get started, here are some more oil painting landscapes to inspire your next creative project!
Oil Painting 1
Oil Painting 1 utilizes bright colors and shorter strokes to emphasize the color in the photo. If you prefer a more stylized and creative approach to oil painting, this is a good effect to play with. You can use the Amount slider to adjust how much of this effect is applied to your photo.
Oil Painting 2
Oil Painting 1 is another great option if you’re looking for a more stylized and creative approach to oil painting.
Realist GFX
The Realist GFX effect creates strokes that mimic the exact texture of the subject portrayed, oftentimes with softer strokes that are less textured than ones like Impasto.
