Why Remove Text From Photos?

There are plenty of reasons you might want to remove text from an image. Whether it’s for personal or professional use, cleaning up a photo can make a big difference in how it looks and functions. Here are a few common scenarios where the Object Eraser can help:

Branding

If you’re working on a personal project or an aesthetic mood board, you might want to remove brand logos from clothing or objects featured in your image. This gives your photos a more neutral and polished appearance, especially if you plan to share them online.

Social Media Repurposing

Sometimes, text overlays limit how an image can be used. A photo with event details, captions, or watermarks might not fit the aesthetic you’re going for. Removing them allows you to give the image a fresh purpose, whether for a new post, a different platform, or a creative edit.

Product Photography Clean-Up

If you sell items online, getting rid of price tags, barcodes, or brand names from other items featured within the shot can create a cleaner, more professional, and less distracting look. This helps keep the focus on your product, making it more appealing to potential buyers.

Eliminating Distractions

A scenic shot can lose its charm if there’s a distracting street sign or billboard in the background. By removing unwanted text, you can keep the focus on the natural beauty of your image without any interruptions.

Fixing Mistakes

Maybe you scribbled a date stamp or caption but later decided it wasn’t necessary (or it was grammatically incorrect). Instead of needing to retake the shot or cropping out part of the image, you can now just erase the text with a few simple clicks, keeping the rest of your photo intact.

Step 2: Select and Remove the Text

Move the slider left or right to adjust the brush size to best fit the text you’re removing. Then, using your cursor, click and drag your brush to highlight this text. These painted areas will appear red.

Be sure to paint over and just outside the edges of the text that you would like to erase. You can also adjust the brush size as needed as you select your text.

You’ll also notice the Generative Fill option that you can toggle on or off. Generative Fill helps seamlessly replace erased text or objects with AI-generated details that blend naturally into the background. Instead of leaving behind a blank space, it intelligently fills in the area based on the surrounding elements, making edits look smooth and realistic.

Pro Tip: Accidentally painted over an area you don’t want to remove? Select the Erase icon in the upper left corner and use your cursor to click and apply it over those areas. To exit out of the erase tool, just click the icon again.

You can click the Erase Object button to see the image without Generative Fill. If you'd like to preview how the AI fills in the erased area, simply toggle on Generative Fill to view the updated result.

Finally, click Apply to keep your changes.

Step 3: Save It!

Now that you’ve removed the unwanted text from your image, all that’s left to do is to save it. Click Save at the top of the screen, then choose your desired save location.
