How to Resize Social Media Templates for Cohesive Posts
When it comes to building a recognizable brand, consistency is essential – especially on social media. Consistency across social media platforms isn’t just about using the same colors or fonts though; it’s also about creating a seamless experience for your audience, no matter where they follow you.
Resizing images manually to meet each platform’s size requirements can be time-consuming, and doing it wrong can lead to poor-quality or distorted images, however. Thankfully, BeFunky’s Graphic Designer offers a time-saving solution! Not only is it home to numerous social media templates, but its easy-to-use Resize Template feature allows you to resize your social media posts without cropping them, so you don’t lose any important details in the process. Resizing your designs for multiple platforms has never been so effortless!
How to Resize Social Media Posts Online
Ready to use BeFunky’s Resize Template feature? Head to the Social Media Templates within our Graphic Designer, then follow these 5 simple steps!
Step 1: Select a Social Media Template
To get started, click on the social media template you wish to customize. BeFunky offers templates for all major platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube, so pick the one that best fits your current needs.
Then, click Use This Template to begin editing it. For this example, we’re using an Instagram post template and converting it into a Twitter post.
Step 2: Customize Your Template
Next, replace the existing elements with your own images, text, graphics, or color scheme to make the design unique to your brand.
Don’t worry about fitting it perfectly for any other platforms just yet, as we’ll cover that in the next step.
Step 3: Resize Your Social Post for Another Platform
Now that you’ve got your design set, it’s time to resize it for another platform. Navigate to Customize in the main menu on the left, then click Resize Template.
Underneath Template Size Presets, choose the social media platform you’d like to resize your design for. This feature will then automatically resize your template to fit the specific dimensions of your selected platform, whether it’s Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, or more.
Just be sure to keep the Lock Aspect Ratio and Smart Resize options checked, as they allow your template’s background and layers to be resized accordingly and without distortion.
Finally, click Resize to make your changes.
Step 4: Make Any Additional Edits
Resizing a template might not always be perfect, so in some cases, you’ll need to tweak the placement of text, images, or graphics to make sure everything fits perfectly. Simply click and drag these elements with your mouse to reposition them, or drag each element’s corners inwards or outwards to make them smaller or larger.
Step 5: Save Your Resized Social Media Post
Once you’ve finished resizing your social media template for as many platforms as you require, all that’s left to do is to save it. Click Save at the top of the screen, then select your desired save location. You can even click More + to share your new image directly to Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter.
As you can see below, we’ve resized our original Instagram template for not only Twitter but Pinterest too!
Examples of Resizing for Different Social Media Platforms
Once you've resized one social media template, it’s easy to replicate that cohesive look across other platforms. Here are three additional examples of how you can resize a design to fit different social media platforms, while maintaining brand consistency.
Twitter Post to Facebook Page Cover
- Twitter Post Size: 1200 x 675 pixels
- Facebook Page Cover Size: 1702 x 630 pixels
To resize a Twitter post template for a Facebook Page Cover, start by selecting your Twitter post design and resizing it using BeFunky’s Resize Template feature. Since Facebook Page Covers have a much wider layout, the design may need some tweaking to ensure the new available template space is filled. Adjust the placement of text and images as needed, and you’ll have a perfectly resized design ready for your Facebook page, maintaining visual consistency across both platforms.
Here, we’ve resized a Twitter post about an upcoming live show so that it can also be used as the band’s Facebook page cover image to further spread the word.
Instagram Story to Pinterest Pin
- Instagram Story Size: 1080 x 1920 pixels
- Pinterest Pin Size: 1000 x 1500 pixels
Instagram Stories and Pinterest Pin templates share similar vertical layouts, but resizing a design from Instagram to Pinterest might require some minor adjustments in element spacing or text placement. By resizing your Instagram Story template into a Pinterest Pin, you’ll be able to repurpose your existing design for a brand-new platform, giving it a seamless and professional look.
In this example, we’ve shared an announcement about a band’s pre-sale album release. All it took was a small tweak to share the image with a wider audience.
Twitter Header to YouTube Channel Art
- Twitter Header Size: 1500 x 500 pixels
- YouTube Channel Art Size: 2560 x 1440 pixels
Transforming a Twitter header into YouTube channel art involves resizing a much smaller, horizontal design into a large format with specific safe zones. After resizing the template, you can easily adjust your logo, background images, and text to ensure they fit properly within the safe zone of YouTube’s channel art. This ensures that the essential elements of your design are always visible across devices.
Header and channel art images both take up valuable real estate on your social media pages. In this example, we’ve been able to repurpose our Twitter header for a YouTube channel too, saving us valuable time in creating additional designs from scratch.
